We ask for personal information only when you choose to give it, only what we need, and we tell you here what we do with it.
Who we are
This website is run by the Dr. Bashir Campaign Organisation, the campaign of Dr. Bashir Aliyu, candidate for Gwale State Constituency, Kano State House of Assembly, 2027 (Action Democratic Party, ADP). We decide why and how the personal information described here is used.
To ask us anything about your information, write to hello@bashiraliyu.com.ng or call +234 802 327 3694.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent anyone’s information.
- We do not keep records of any person’s political leanings, religion, ethnicity or similar personal beliefs, and we do not score or profile individuals.
- We do not use advertising trackers or advertising cookies on this site.
What we collect, and why
We collect information only when you give it to us through a form on this site, and only what the form asks for.
- Volunteer sign-up: your name, phone number, email address (optional), ward, polling unit and the kind of help you offer. We use it to contact you about volunteering and to place you with the right ward team. It is seen by the campaign staff who coordinate volunteers. Your sign-up stays “pending” until a coordinator reviews it. Your legal basis is your consent, which you give by ticking the box on the form.
- Appointee registration (for people who have received an appointment letter from the campaign): the details on that form, which can include your name, phone number, email address, date of birth, address, occupation, polling unit and a photograph. We use them to confirm your appointment, to issue your identity card and dashboard access, and to make your congratulations flyer. Your photograph is stored privately; only authorised campaign staff can see it.
- Messages you send the website assistant: the assistant answers questions about the campaign. What you type is sent to an artificial-intelligence service provider to produce a reply. We do not store the conversation. Please do not type personal details such as your phone number or address.
- Text and WhatsApp messages: we send them only to people who have agreed to receive them, on the channels they agreed to. You can stop at any time by replying STOP or by telling us.
What stays on your device
The “I Endorse” flyer maker runs entirely in your browser. The photograph and name you enter there are not uploaded to us.
The site saves your light/dark display choice in your browser so it can remember it. It is not sent to us.
Technical information and abuse protection
To stop spam and repeated automated submissions, when you use a form or the assistant we keep a scrambled (salted, one-way hashed) version of your network address together with the time. It cannot be turned back into your address, and it is deleted after a day.
Our hosting and database providers process technical information such as your network address and browser type in order to deliver the site and keep it secure.
Who can see your information
Only authorised campaign staff and volunteers who need it to do their work, using accounts with limited access. Access to records is logged.
Our service providers (for example, the database and hosting providers, and the assistant provider described above) process information on our behalf and only for the purposes above. We disclose information to others only where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep volunteer and registration details while you are involved with the campaign and for a reasonable period afterwards, and then delete or anonymise them. You can ask us to delete your information sooner at any time.
Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you can ask to see the information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, withdraw a consent you gave, and object to how it is used. Write to hello@bashiraliyu.com.ng or call +234 802 327 3694. If you are not satisfied with our answer you may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Children
This site is for adults. Please do not submit information about anyone under 18.
